We’re reaching the last days of summer. August is all about the balance between sweet and indulgent rest and the pressing demands of life’s responsibilities. The full moon in Aquarius on August 11 can feel especially destabilizing and frustrating. This moment connects to whatever has been growing since the beginning of the year. On the other hand, Venus entering Leo on the same day as the full moon reminds us that not all bad things remain awful. Time flows, and things move on. Make space for pleasure.

The planet of action, Mars, enters the curious sign of Gemini on August 20, where it will stay for an extended period until March 25, 2023. The Sun enters Virgo on August 22 to usher in the liminal season of summer ending and autumn beginning. A new month is welcomed in by the planet of action Mars entering the slower pace of Taurus on July 4. The same day, the planet of communication Mercury enters emotionally receptive Cancer. It’s quite the cozy and stay-at-home vibes. The full moon in Capricorn takes place on July 13, the culmination point of whatever began at the beginning of January 2022. What has come to fruition since then?

Venus joins the homebound crew and enters Cancer on July 17. This inspires breakfast in bed, PJs all day and cooking for people instead of eating out. Mercury changes signs and enters Leo on July 19, which primes our summer-ready (for the northern hemisphere, at least) plans.

The sun officially kicks off the deepening of seasons (summer in the north, winter in the south) and goes into Leo on July 22. And finally, a new moon in Leo occurs on July 28, the same day Jupiter in Aries stations retrograde. Have fun and slow down if you can. Read your month-ahead horoscopes for some gentle guidance.

June is, thankfully, more comfortable and less torturous compared to last month. The planet of communication, Mercury, after a spell in retrograde, goes direct on June 3, hopefully helping any stalled projects and conversations to move along. It also re-enters Gemini on June 13, making it easier to process information.

A full moon in Sagittarius illuminates the sky on June 14. It completes a powerful story that began in December 2021 (it was a total solar eclipse back then, as you read here). It squares Neptune this time, making things a touch confusing and overwhelming.

Summer solstice is also upon us as the Sun enters Cancer on June 21. (Happy birthday month to you Cancer babies!) Venus enters Gemini on June 22, which bodes well for pleasant socializing. We are officially welcoming eclipse season, since the partial solar eclipse in Taurus took place on April 30th (read last month’s horoscopes for details). Generally, the time during and in between eclipses can feel disorienting, like you’re moving through the twilight zone. It can also feel exhausting, because major shifts and changes happen during eclipses. It takes a lot to metabolize these adaptations.

The sky is a flurry of activities, with Venus entering Aries on May 2 and Jupiter following on May 10. There will be a general vibe of indulgent adventure-seeking. Mercury stations retrograde in Gemini on May 10, which gives us a collective pause to finish overdue projects instead of starting new ones. Journeys and communications may be a bit wonky in the next three weeks.

In Scorpio, a total lunar eclipse (where the full moon turns red) takes place on May 15 (it’ll be visible in North America!). This culminates whatever began back in November 2021. It’s in a challenging aspect with Saturn, which can illuminate the limitations of your personal situations.

The Sun enters Gemini on May 20, which signals the end of spring and the beginning of summer. And the backwards-moving Mercury re-enters Taurus on May 22, retracing the same steps it has already taken since the end of April. Mars enters its home sign Aries on May 24, which can mobilize certain areas of your life into action. Venus enters Taurus on May 28 to sweeten the waiting game and inspire you to take things slowly in contrast. April is quite magical and intense. The first half of the month features the coming-together of planets in Pisces. Venus enters Pisces on April 5. Mars follows on April 14, but before that, Jupiter perfects its long-awaited conjunction with Neptune in Pisces on April 12. These transits in particular are the reason we are more inclined to have a more colourful imagination, full of hope and idealism.

Mercury moves into Taurus on April 10, which brings our sensibilities to a more grounded and sensorial vibe. A full moon in Libra takes place on April 16, culminating what has been growing since October 2021. Taurus season officially begins on April 19 as the sun enters Taurus, solidifying spring in the north. Mercury enters its home sign Gemini, where it will stay for an extended period due to its upcoming retrograde (but more on that next month.

And finally, the intense end of the month is courtesy of the partial solar eclipse in Taurus on April 30 which will only be visible to the southwest of South America, as well as parts of the Pacific, the Atlantic and Antarctica. THE WORLD STAGE

On Mar. 21st, 2020, at 11:58 pm EDT, Saturn entered Aquarius. Whenever outer planets change signs, astrologers often mark these moments as note-worthy times in history. As we speak, the whole world is currently dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. Saturn, the planet signifying limits, restrictions and boundaries, are apt descriptive words of the current reality everyone is dealing with. Social distancing became the buzz word, while Saturn spent its last moments in Capricorn. Saturn will retrograde back into Capricorn on Jul. 1st, 2020. It will return to Aquarius on Dec. 17th, 2020 and will stay there until Mar. 8th, 2023.

When Saturn was in Capricorn since Dec. 2017 until just recently, it's most crucial transits were its co-presence and conjunction with Pluto and the South Node eclipses. On Jan. 12th, 2020, Saturn and Pluto conjoined at 22º Capricorn, starting a new cycle between these two outer planets. When Mars, the planet of action, entered Capricorn on Feb. 16th, 2020, we watched the world bent over and grappled with the quickly spreading COVID-19 infection. Authorities had to impose border and travel restrictions to contain the virus. The economic recession appears inevitable as most industries come to a halt.

Nonetheless, it has been impressive to watch how some governments provided fundamental and economic human rights in light of the current global emergency. Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn in many ways, exposed old power structures that can no longer hold and support itself. Necessitating all levels of reform with COVID-19 as a catalyst.

Now with Saturn in Aquarius, the world is adjusting to what may potentially be a new reality. A new world order. In a capitalist paradigm, profit and consumption are its primary mechanism of function. Now, people are having to adapt to what appears to be a rationing of scarce resources - money, bodies, time and space. Communities are called to strengthen their connections to survive isolation during physical distancing. Front line health care workers are fighting in desperation to support the gravely ill. Some countries' health care systems are unable to give them appropriate protection. The amount of people dying at a short amount of time seems unprecedented for most of us who have not lived through and survived wars. Saturn's entry into Aquarius is urgently and promptly compelling us to change the ways we live. If we are to survive this moment in history.

This week feels a touch softer than last week. There’s more flowing conversations among the celestial bodies compared to conflict and disagreements. However, sextile and trine aspects can sometimes pass you by without much effect due to its generally comfortable nature. It is usually through the squares and oppositions where you can experience change and action. Nonetheless, with more earthy elements in the mix, there’s a lot that can be accomplished and manifested in the material world if you put in the work. We’ve got Venus coming home to sensual Taurus and Mars also changing signs to sensitive Cancer. Venus moves out of being in detriment (Aries) to being dignified (Taurus). And Mars from a peregrine-ish sign (Gemini) to its fallen one (Cancer). We also have a Full Moon in Scorpio on the weekend reaching a pinnacle of sorts from the last New Moon in Scorpio on Nov. 7, 2018. If last week was harsh on relationships, this week feels like the deliverance of tenderness required to help soften situations. Either that, or more indolence and procrastination.

The loose-lipped Moon in Gemini makes no exact trysts with other planets today but its ruler Mercury changes to the serene and deliberate sign of Taurus at 2:25pm ET. The Messenger God/dess generally prefers to move at a hurried pace. In Taurus, Mercury is left with no choice but to slow its roll. This ingress really tempers the day towards a gentle and thorough way of interfacing with the world. Slow and steady, wins the race. Mercury in Taurus is all about down-to-earth and getting-to-the-point kind of thinking. Often there is a logical and practical process that accompanies decision-making and correspondence of all kinds. Mercury visiting the temple of Venus is invited to incline towards relaxation and pleasure-oriented imaginations. Instead of scurrying about, our minds and mouths are compelled to ease into a more laid-back kind of style. However, because of Uranus’ presence in Taurus, most planets entering the first few degrees of fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio & Aquarius) will first encounter the planet of chaos jerking them out of their usual solid temperament. We are in the collective present where things that have been stable for some time start to form cracks. Mercury will leisurely stroll through Taurus until May. 20th.

It’s highly possible that you stayed up late last night because the Moon in Pisces was happily drunk from Uranus’ exciting offerings. Today however may feel a bit like a harsh hangover. But first, we experience a mildly supportive sextile between the Moon in Pisces and the Sun in Taurus. This really helps affirm our inner sense of belonging. The ego is supported by our intuition and we are better equipped to attend to our needs. The real star of the day however is Saturn stationing retrograde this evening at 20˚ Capricorn at 8:55pm EST. Here the lord of consequence will backtrack all the way to 13˚ until Sept. 17, 2019. Saturn has travelled through these degrees before since Jan. 21, 209 to be exact. Saturn signifies the fundamental structures that hold us up - like our bones and spine. Saturn urges us to have endurance against life’s struggles. It rules time and the limits it sets on our human capacity. Ruling over death and our inevitable return to ashes. Things that grow under Saturn’s gaze are slow, steady and truly time-tested. Whatever it touches, it wants to last for a long time. This retrograde cycle teaches us to confront our own inner strength and ability to survive and thrive under life’s demands. Reflect on the responsibilities you have shouldered and review if it's still work you are committed to continue. Determine what areas of your life is needing more discipline and perseverance. The week starts us off on a jovial and optimistic note with the Moon still in Sagittarius. For people living in the northern hemisphere, spring is definitely in the air. Rain or shine, you can’t dampen the spirit of today’s hopeful tone. There is a general mood for exploration and attaching meaning to our daily experiences. Later in the evening, we find the Sun conjoins Uranus in Taurus at 2º at 7:05pm EST for the first time in ~84 years (wow). This combo is electric and sends shockwaves to the system. Whatever house in your charts that’s Taurus, is in for some major changes and upheavals for the next 7 years. The change though chaotic, is ultimately freedom from what’s dragging you down. The Sun’s time in Taurus this month shines a light on this area of your life. Shortly after, the philosophical Moon in Sagittarius finds itself drowning in mystical waters squaring off with Neptune in Pisces. Be careful what you wish for. Not all the glitters is gold.

SUN & MERCURY ENTERS AQUARIUS

Before the Sun moves from earth to air, he squares off with Uranus in Aries for a disruptive shake up. This really exemplifies how the first two weeks of January felt like. Volatile and potent with a mix of grief and discipline. On Jan. 20th the Sun enters the second realm of Saturn into Aquarius. Fixing our time deep into winter for the north, summer in the south. Our great star does not do too well in Aquarius. The Sun is concerned with shining a light on our individual hearts’ desires. In Aquarius, a sign that prioritizes the unified collective body, can be quite far off from the ego’s need for the spotlight. Aquarius, an intellectual, prefers to search for truths and ideals through a recognition with the masses. Still traditionally ruled by Saturn, Aquarius can be resolute in his quest for reform. A positive mitigation for the Sun in detriment is that he is finally witnessed by a superior sextile from dignified Jupiter.

As always, Mercury is never too far away from the Sun. This perma-combust speedy planet also squares off with Uranus and then enters Aquarius on Jan. 24th. Overall, from here on forward, the Sun and Mercury are the only planets giving us some fixed-modality-vibes. This is a welcome change from all the cardinal-initiatory spirit and mutable-wavering mood for most of the month. Fixed signs help us finish and get to where we need to go.

TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE AT 0˚ LEO

Taking the main stage for the last two weeks of January is a potent lunation on Jan. 20th 9:16pm PT/ Jan. 21st 12:16am ET. A Total Lunar Eclipse occurs when the Moon passes completely through the Earth’s dark shadow and takes on a rusty or blood red colour. This month’s lunation is also astronomically called a Supermoon due to its larger than usual appearance for being closer to the earth’s orbit. This event will be visible throughout most North and South America, the eastern Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, Europe, Middle East, most of Africa and northeastern Asia.

The beginning of the Leo Aquarius axis eclipses started back in Aug. 2016. This is the last time we’re having an eclipse in Leo. This pair will not be back for another 9 years, and the North Node won’t be returning in Leo for another 19 years. The Leo and Aquarius polarity deals with the tension of individuation and communion. They both desire recognition and feedback through different means. Leo, a fixed fire sign, deals with creative self-alignment. Aquarius, a fixed air sign, deals with collective kinship & liberation. Leo offers warm generosity, Aquarius provides strategies for moving humanity forward. Both offer a kind of endurance to their mission. In your birth charts, this axis pertains to your movement in and out of your ego. The ego is an interesting human reality. It’s necessary to nurture through gains of our life’s purpose, but also necessary to take its burden off to experience humility in our imperfection. This potent lunation is all expression. Not all Leos are extroverted (yes introverted Leos exist) but what’s true for all Leos is a need for feedback. All of our Sun signs rule this house in our chart (house that’s Leo). We integrate any significations of our Leo houses into our soul’s purpose. This lunation is getting support through a sign based Grand Fire Trine with Mars in Aries and Venus and Jupiter in Sagittarius.

TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE AT 15˚ CAPRICORN

Eclipses are always potent lunations that can manifest as a growth wild card. It also occurs up to 6x a year and is a very common event. It is more helpful to look at them in their bigger cycles. Sometimes shocking and unexpected things happen, and sometimes nothing really happens. If you are having a Solar or Lunar activated year, eclipses are times to watch out for. On Jan. 5, 2019 at 8:28pm ET, we experience our first partial solar eclipse in Capricorn since 2011. A partial solar eclipse is when the moon only partially covers the Sun. This event will be visible from norteastern China, Mongolia, Japan, eastern Russia, northern Micronesia, the Pacific Ocean and westernmost Alaska. Eclipses always occur in oppositional pairs for about 2 years, repeating about every 9 years. We experienced the first batch of the Cancer-Capricorn eclipses back in July 12, 2018 during a Solar Eclipse in Cancer. This means, whatever houses in your charts that are Cancer & Capricorn, will have eclipses occurring here for the next 2 years. The themes are about stability and security.

A Solar Eclipse is an amplified new moon and this one is sitting with the south node of the Moon providing an emptying out influence. As new birth emerges, death also occurs. For people with luminaries (Sun & Moon), personal planets (Mercury, Venus & Mars), and angles (Ascendant and Midheaven) in Cardinal Signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra & Capricorn), the eclipse season will likely bring about some potent beginnings and endings. No need to freak out or be afraid. Often the wheels of change have likely been in motion already so just observe. Solar Eclipses tend to express itself for about 6 months. Sometimes an external event doesn’t actually happen or things happen in the lives of the people around you. Regardless of what transpires, the energy of new beginnings is thick in the air.

The Full Moon happens at 0˚ Cancer at 9:49am PT/ 12:40pm ET on Dec. 22, 2018 on Saturday, Saturn’s day. 2018 was the year of retrogrades. It was a year that required all of us to be more contemplative and reflective. It demanded us to review our lives, our passions, our relationships, our thoughts and our integrity. Whatever trail you’re leaving behind, know that you survived one of the most challenging year for all of us and the whole wide world. This emo Full Moon also opposes Saturn and Pluto. At the same time, also co-present with the North Node, newly in Cancer and has not been here since 18 years ago. It’s powerful and probably triggering, for better or for worse.

Major Planetary Movements for the Month of Virgo 2018

          A spotlight is shone upon the aspect of your life that contains the sign Virgo. For folks born during this month, it means the Sun returns to the same degree it was in when you were born. For all of us, a certain awareness and ego-consciousness occurs wherever we have Virgo in our charts. Virgo is a mutable earth sign that is concerned with discerning and differentiating what’s useful and useless. The Sun in Virgo functions to analyse and organize details in order to achieve the most efficient use of time and energy. Generally there is a desire to be critical and work through an area of our life to ultimately bring ease moving forward. Health is one of Virgo’s aims and the Sun’s journey in this sign brings an awareness for us to work at making practical and concrete improvements towards better health. This can be applicable in our work, our bodies, our relationships, our family and our mental health for example. Virgo always asks: is it working properly? can it work better? is it useful? is it in good health? is it valuable? I imagine Virgos as like worker bees hired to initiate a quality improvement project – and that project could be for e.g. their career, their health, their romantic partners, their finances etc. More importantly, when Virgo is happy to work away, which can be almost always, it is in honour of wanting to be of service. The joy is in the details and their level of attention can trap them in an endless loop of adjustment towards a kind of perfection. It is helpful for this mutable earth sign to always measure the level of “good enough” that is acceptable. This strategy can help many a Virgos manage their expectation and experience a much more achievable sense of satisfaction.

         The Sun immediately aspects with Uranus Rx in Taurus and Saturn Rx Capricorn creating a Grand Earth Trine. This is a very positive time promoting innovation and longevity in our efforts. In our birth charts, the houses that contain all the earth signs is being lit up by this very supportive aspect configurations.  Uranus and Saturn’s retrograde motion can represent a time for recalling and reviewing information which can manifest as delay in their expression. In any case, this Grand Earth Trine makes for practical, concrete, affirming and rewarding manifestation of our work. It will most likely feel good to put our heads down and get down to business.
